  • Dolomitic Lime Applications raise the
    pH and provide Calcium and
    Magnesium for the lawn.

  • The most important effect of a lime
    application is that the pH level
    determines the availability of
    nutrients for the turf.
  • The pH also influences the micro-
    organism populations in the soil.
  • Serenity Lawn Service uses Dolomitic
    Lime, because it is high in
    Magnesium, which is an important
    nutrient in leaf and chlorophyll
    development.

  • The ideal pH range for most grass
    types is 6.5.  These two soil tests show
    the pH of a typical lawn in the
    Atlanta area.
  • A pH of "5" is 10 times more acidic
    than a pH of "6", so the difference is
    more significant than it may seem.

  • Also, notice the amount of lime called
    for by the lab.  Both tests call for at
    least 40 lbs. of lime per 1,000 ft².

  • We performed two corrective nutrient
    applications after visual inspection
    indicated several deficiencies.
  • The soil test shows that the nutrient
    levels in the soil responded well.
  • However, the turf continued to
    struggle due to the poor soil quality
    and low pH.
  • Your lawn may have been planted on
    soil much like this, as the lawn above
    was.

  • Simply adding nutrients may sustain
    the lawn, but the lawn's performance
    will be poor until the soil is amended.
  • Results like this can be achieved,
    even if your lawn was planted in
    conditions like the image above (this
    one was).

  • Keeping the pH level up, good mowing
    habits, and good air and water flow
    from aeration are all factors that
    improve a lawn's response to
    fertilization.
